Monday night Nov. 7th, I was unable to attend class for I was in a car accident. I went ahead and did my research on our next essay, and although I missed the discussion for this essay I have a good idea of what exactly I want to write about. I have chosen to write about the Mentos Rainbow Commercial on television.
The meaning existing within the context of this commercial is clear to me of how this company is presenting their product and who they are presenting it to. However writing this essay in MLA format may be a tad bit confusing to me. I have read the Purdue OWL website and have an idea of how to set my essay up, but I may need some extra help to fully understand what exactly I need to do.

Tortillas
In our assignment to read pages 524 - 526 in our Patterns book, Jose Antonio Burciaga tells us the meaning of a Tortilla. Jose shows us that not only is it just a food, but holds deeper meaning. When the earliest Mexican immigrants introduced the US to tortillas, over time we have Americanized them and invented many different foods used with them. For Mexicans they served as the spoon and the fork, the plate and the napkin. However, the versatility of tortillas are great, and have spiritual and artistic qualities as well as being traditional and cultural.

What is a True Hero?
For our second essay, we had to choose a word to explore and argue the definition of. I chose the word "hero". Most people have different views on what this term could mean. For example, many people believe a hero is someone who wears a cape and has supernatural powers, flying around saving the miss in distress. I on the other hand believe a hero is someone who sacrifices his own life, not expecting any rewards. He or she is in fact a leader who worries about themselves and whether they are doing the right thing and does not worry about their followers. A hero understands that if they are doing the right thing then their followers will follow that example. In my essay, I talk about my opinions further and I express my beliefs of what a true hero really is.
